City Meet Details

Hello Byrd Spring Swim Team,

First, I want to say thank you to the timers that volunteered and the parents that are swimming and our amazing assistant coaches that are swimming/volunteering!!! Thank you, Sawyer, Catie Rose, Claudia, Adam, Addie and Deisen!

Second, please DO NOT leave the meet unless you check with the coaches first. If your child makes top the 16 in individual swim events they are in finals and usually alternates are 17-19th place. Relays are automatic points, so please make sure you are on time.

Also, make sure swimmers are well rested, hydrated, and eat well. There is no pressure, this is a fun meet where all the teams come together. It's like a huge party. We are there to CELEBRATE all the hard work and improvements these swimmers have made in only 6 weeks!

New things this year for pros and newbies: the doors are different this year. It is VITAL that kids wear shoes everywhere. The new pool deck is VERY slippery when wet. The doors going into the competition pool is not ideal and we were told the door can accidentally pinch toes etc. Please have your kids wear cheap shoes (crocs, flipflops, etc.) Wear them to block practice so the coaches can practice where the laundry basket will be to drop towels/shoes before they swim. After they swim, they will want their towels and hopefully that will help them to remember shoes. We want everyone safe and ready to swim. We don't want anyone falling, breaking limbs, or missing toes from going in that door.

What to bring: Chair, Blanket, Games/book, Multiple towels, Shoes, Snacks and drinks to share in cooler, Sunscreen, Extra swimsuit/extra goggles/extra swim cap, Marker, Extra phone charger, Umbrella/rain jacket (optional), Money for lunch/snacks.

There is a copy of the heat sheet in this email. It's a draft and things will change. When we get the warmup schedule, we can get an exact time to show up. City Meet sells heat sheets, or you can purchase the Meet Mobile app. The busiest day is Saturday!!! And parking is nightmare, so get in early. Saturday morning is 10U. Saturday afternoon is 11 and up. This repeats on Sunday.

The awards follow after the finals on Sunday. This can be fun and exciting so consider showing up to celebrate our team working hard.

Also, Rocket City Swim Board will be enforcing no-bullying policy. Including social media, cheers that bully people/teams, booing, etc. Any team caught bullying anyone will face consequences. Even if it's just one person from a specific team that is bullying, their team as a whole will face the consequences. They were very serious about all pools talking to the kids and parents and to remind everyone that it's a summer league.

Sorry about the long email. We will be sending more emails soon about --- Block Practice and Lunch, Warmup times, Tent City, Dinner after Sunday Awards, and Byrd Spring Swim Banquet.

A HUGE THANK YOU,

Coach Jennifer
