Swim Meet 101

SWIM MEET INFO & TIPS

Arrive at Home meets by 5:00pm * Away meets arrive by 5:30pm

What to Expect at a Swim Meet

  • Stay out of the sun and rest most of the day leading up to the swim meet!
  • Arrive to the meet 30 minutes before warm-up.
  • Parents/guardians should bring a lawn chair around the perimeter of the pool. Seats are not typically provided
  • Swimmers should have their name and age written on their back in black Sharpie PICTURE BELOW for EXAMPLE (We don't know all the kids names this helps ALL of us including the other team to make sure the kids are in correct lane)
  • Swimmers should have their events written on their arm to help keep them prepared (PICTURE BELOW FOR EXAMPLE)
    • Please see this YouTube video with great instructions on how to read a heat sheet (where you will see what your kid is swimming & how to write their events on their arm (if you would like) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6THKowy6UM
  • Swimmers will warm-up and have a team pep talk!
  • Events will begin shortly, beginning with the youngest swimmers first.
  • Young swimmers should expect to stay in the “bullpen,” which is the designated location for swimmers to await their events.
  • Older swimmers must also remain in the team area, as it helps keep things run efficiently.
  • While waiting for events, swimmers can eat snacks, play with friends, or read, BUT they should be paying attention to the event numbers as the events are called quickly.
  • If a swimmer has completed all events before the meet is over, confirm with coaches before leaving the meet to ensure the swimmer isn’t a last minute replacement.
  • Remember that all of us (swimmers, coaches and parents) are representatives of Byrd Spring Swim Team wherever we go!
