Coaches Corner: VHCC and Pre-City Meet
July 6th
Good Afternoon Byrd Spring Families,
As we head into the week before City Meet, I want to encourage everyone’s support for their athlete’s physical and mental health leading into the weekend. You can always remind your swimmer that “Coach said…” to help reinforce these important habits.
Key Reminders for Taper Week:
- Rest is crucial. Encourage your swimmer to get plenty of sleep each night. Well-rested athletes perform better and recover faster.
- Hydration matters. Remind swimmers to drink water consistently throughout the day, not just during practice or meets.
- Nutrition counts. Focus on balanced meals with lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy carbs. Avoid heavy, greasy, or unfamiliar foods, especially as the meet approaches.
- Limit strenuous activity. Please, no overexertion or rough play this week. Save their energy for the pool!
- Ear care: We’ve had several swimmers dealing with ear infections lately (even Silas started complaining of ear pain a few days ago). As a preventative measure, please use Swimmer’s Ear drops after every pool visit—no matter which pool. Continue this daily through the week and weekend.
- Mental preparation: Encourage positive self-talk and visualization. Remind your swimmer to focus on their own races and not compare themselves to others.
There will be no morning practice tomorrow to allow for extra rest and recovery.
If you have any questions or need additional tips for keeping your athlete healthy and confident, please reach out. Let’s make this City Meet our best yet!
We Are Byrd Spring!
